ubuntu 19.04 disco dingo new features

Here, in this Ubuntu guide, I will be discussing about the new features and latest key changes Ubuntu 19.04 brings to the table.

There’s not much changed in the Ubuntu 19.04 Disco Dingo. You can’t even see latest changes in the new operating system, but you can most certainly feel it.

Ubuntu 19.04 is faster than before

They have done various optimisations in the GNOME software which makes the performance much much faster than before.

Better Desktop Experience

You will certainly feel the animations and transitions changes in the new Ubuntu 19.04 Disco Dingo that creates a significantly good desktop experience. You will notice most of these animations when opening the app grid, accessing the top menu bar, and while switching between work spaces and apps.

New Default Wallpaper

The icons are also changed and there’s also a new default wallpaper.

New Desktop Icons Extension

GNOME has used a new desktop icon extension that is used to display and manage files shortcuts and folders that you place on the desktop. But one major functionality I noticed which is missing in the Ubuntu 19.04 is the drag and drop files and folders from one location to another.

File Favouriting

File manager also support start option, by clicking to it, it will change make the selected folder or file as your favourite and will display it on the left side navigation panel.

File searching has become more faster than before thanks to that inclusion of new indexing tracker installed by default.

ALT+TAB Switching

Alt+Tab key switches between opened windows in this version of Ubuntu. In order to switch between applications, use TAB instead.

You can now also control the intensity of the built-in Blue Light filter in the Display Settings.

Software Updates

There are additional applications and software are available to install to the Ubuntu Software Centre. Ubuntu 19.04 also shipped with the latest version of Mozilla Firefox, Thunderbird, and LibreOffice.

This version of Ubuntu is probably the most compatible version. It also allows you to install proprietary Nvidia drivers packages.

If I summarise, Ubuntu 19.04 Disco Dingo is the best version of Ubuntu with GNOME shell as it is more faster and provides more responsive experience. If someone hasn’t tried his hands on Linux yet, I would recommend him/her to go for this version of Ubuntu as it gives a user experience.
