How to Change Chrome Homepage and Startup Page

In this TechPosts, you will learn how to change Google Chrome homepage and startup page. Chrome homepage and Startup page are both different pages-

  • A homepage is a page which loads when you click the home button from the Chrome task bar.
  • Startup page is/are the set of the page that loads automatically every time chrome browser launches.

Before updating homepage and startup page in Chrome, I would advise you to clear chrome cache & cookies.

How to Change Homepage in Chrome

You can set google as chrome homepage or specify any set of URL to open when you press the Home icon on the taskbar.

  1. Open Google Chrome web browser.
  2. Click on the menu icon { 3-vertical dot} located at the top right corner of the chrome screen.
  3. A drop-down menu will appear, click on Settings. It will open Chrome Settings window in a new tab.

  4. Scroll down to locate Appearance section, enable the Show home button.

  5. Here, you can set a new tab or any specific web page as a homepage. Select the “New Tab Page” circle if you want chrome to open a new tab whenever you hit the home button.
  6. Check “Enter custom web address” to set a website address as a homepage button. Here, I am setting Google as a homepage.

  7. Your settings will be saved automatically. You will find a home button appear on the left side of address bar. Click on it to open your specified homepage.

How do I change the Startup Page on Google Chrome?

You can customize what page to load when google chrome starts up. Users can change their startup page settings to new tab, open the last visited pages and open a specified set of pages.

Set Chrome to open a new Tab

  1. Open your Google Chrome browser.
  2. Click on menu icon located at the top right corner and open Settings.
  3. Scroll down and look for “On Startup” Section and open Manage on startup pages.

  4. Check Open the New Tab page.

Set Chrome to open where you left off

  1. Open Chrome and click on the menu icon > Settings.
  2. Scroll down and open “On Startup” > Manage on startup pages.
  3. Select Continue where you left off.

Set Chrome to Open specific web pages

  1. Open Chrome browser and click on the menu icon > Settings.
  2. Scroll down and click Manage on startup pages under “On Startup” section.
  3. Select Open a specific page or set of pages.

  4. Click Add a new page and type the website address you want to load at startup.
  5. Click Use current pages if you want currently opened pages to open at startup.
